DEVYL FAQS -

Question: How many divisions does DEVYL send to YCCs?

ANSWER: There are several divisions we will be sending to YCCs:

DEVYL U-20 Boys - We have entered a team in U-20 Boys Division since 2008! In March, we run tryouts to determine who makes DEVYL U-20 Boys Travel and who will be on DEVYL U-20 Boys DEVYLopmental. Teams will begin practice in June usually twice a week (one weekday and one weekend). We will have one tournament locally in July for both Travel and Developmental and the Travel Team will head to USA Ultimate's Youth Club Championships in Minnesota in August. This team is open to anyone in our region who has not turned 20 prior to the end of the year and was in high school during the year of the tournament. Regarding all of these teams, please click on their individual page to view more information about each team including cost, coaches, commitments, etc. In addition, if you are interested in joining any of these teams, a great idea would be to email devylycc@gmail.com to be added to a list that will become active in early May and to let coaches know about you and hopefully we will see you at some spring tournaments!

Question: What does the YCC weekend schedule look like?

Answer: Here is an itinerary of the weekend at the YCC Tournament:

Friday, Day 1 - Players from our area will depart on a group flight from Newark on Friday. We have reserved virtually the entire plane, so that should be a very fun flight for us (maybe not the flight attendants). Once in MN, our rented bus and experienced bus driver through Voigt Bus Company will pick us up and drive us throughout the weekend. We will take a stop in the Mall of America to walk around and eat lunch and/or dinner. Then we will head to our Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Roseville, that is about 25 minutes from the airport/Mall of America.

Saturday, Day 2 - Players will eat breakfast in the hotel and then head to the fields which is about a 20 minute drive to the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN. Players will have pool play games all day on Friday with a lunch break that is included in the team dues. Afterwards, we will head across the street for the USA Ultimate sponsored dinner where they will eat with players from all over the nation. In addition, there is a jersey trade station, coaches showcase games, free giveaways, and much more going on with all the teams in attendance. Afterwards, we will head back to the hotel after a very long day.

Sunday, Day 3 - Players will eat breakfast in the hotel and then head to the fields. Players will have games all day on Saturday then we will head back to the hotel and either order in or stop by a nearby restaurant depending on how late the games go.

Monday, Day 4 - Players will eat breakfast in the hotel and then head back to the fields. Players will have at most two games on Monday and hopefully we will win a few National Championships! After the awards ceremony, we head back to the hotel and sometimes do a team trip either to the Mall of America or bowling.

Tuesday, Day 5 - Bright and early in the morning, we take a ride to MSP airport and head back home!

Question: "Is it worth it?"

Answer: A person might look at it and think they are paying several hundred dollars for one weekend of ultimate. That's not entirely the case. You really are getting a full summer's experience. You will play in a league against the top youth players in the region. You will practice as a team throughout the summer with some old teammates and many new teammates. Finally, you will head to USA Ultimate's Youth Club Championships which is the only National Championship available to youth players! In addition, you are a part of DEVYL from the very talented NJ/PA region and every one of our teams has a legitmate chance to challenge for the National Championship!
